Frequently Asked Questions
Currently, EV Stations have an SAE J1772 connector. Vehicles with an NACS (Tesla) connector can charge using an adapter.
Any certified electrician can install an EV Station by following its installation guide. EV Stations can be hardwired, and the EV Station Pro additionally supports plug-in installation with one of the included NEMA 14-50 and 6-50 cables.
The custom-designed, stainless steel EV Station Stand mounts up to two EV Stations with interior cable routing for a clean aesthetic.
UniFi EV Charging is managed with UniFi Connect, our modern Enterprise of Things platform.
In addition to your EV Stations, you will need a compatible UniFi Console. We recommend a UniFi Cloud Gateway, such as the Dream Machine Pro or Special Edition, to leverage the built-in internet gateway and firewall for optimal performance. A UniFi CloudKey+ can be used for installations that don’t use UniFi Network. A hard disk drive (HDD) is required to store media content for EV Station digital signage applications.
To manage an EV Station with UniFi Connect, it must be connected to the same network as the UniFi Cloud Gateway or Console. EV Stations support wired Ethernet connection, and can also wirelessly connect to an existing UniFi WiFi network.
While charging is available on unmanaged EV Stations, we recommend management with UniFi Connect for a complete experience, including access to the latest updates and secure remote management.
Additionally, within UniFi Connect, admins can:
-
Configure user authentication for EV charging
-
Set max current
-
Set charge scheduling
-
Configure load management
-
Deploy digital signage content to compatible EV Stations
-
View charging history and statistics
Admins can remotely enable or disable EV Stations for all users.
For installations that require granular access control, admins have the following options to authenticate users for EV charging:
-
QR Code: Generated in UniFi Connect, QR codes can be distributed by admins with their preferred method (e.g., print, email) for users to scan with an EV Station’s built-in camera to access EV charging. For example, a hotel can print QR code vouchers so only authorized guests can charge.
-
UniFi Identity: Admins can onboard users to UniFi Identity, the subscription-free user management system for UniFi sites, to provision EV Station access through the UniFi Identity mobile app. Once invited, users can unlock an EV Station with a single tap in the UniFi Identity mobile app to start charging.
-
NFC Card: UniFi Access must be running on the same console as UniFi Connect with a Control Hub and Access Reader adopted for NFC card registration.
All charging activities are logged and can be reviewed within UniFi Connect, providing admins with comprehensive insights into usage patterns and operational metrics.
